Acuren is actively seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support our Engineering Department within our Edmonton, AB team. As a Lab Assistant at Acuren, you will play a key role in assisting both the Chemistry Lab and Mechanical Testing Lab through hands-on sample preparation, basic testing, and daily laboratory operations.

 

This role is ideal for someone looking to grow their technical skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment. You’ll have opportunities to learn, contribute to meaningful projects, and develop your career within a well-established engineering group.

Position Details

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday (8 hours/day)

  • Overtime: Potential depending on workload

  • Location: Edmonton – 18th Street Lab

  • Start Date: ASAP 

Responsibilities

Laboratory Support – Chemistry & Mechanical Testing

  • Perform sample preparation and assist with routine laboratory testing

  • Support physical/mechanical testing activities

  • Assist with basic chemical or materials tests following established procedures

  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and work areas

  • Follow laboratory work orders and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner

  • Learn and adhere to standard operating procedures and safety practices

Operational Support

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized laboratory environment

  • Assist with basic equipment care (wipe downs, simple maintenance, reporting issues)

  • Work on your feet for most of the shift due to the physical nature of the role

  • Support both the chemistry and mechanical testing teams based on workload demands

Requirements

Required

  • Minimum 6 months to 1 year experience in a laboratory environment (academic or industrial)

  • Background experience or education in a science-related field
  • Comfortable with hands-on work, equipment handling, and physical tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

  • Ability to work safely and follow written procedures

  • Ability to stand for extended periods

Assets

  • Education in Materials Technology, Chemical Technology, Engineering Technology, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Experience with sample preparation, mechanical testing, or chemical lab work
  • Previous experience in an industrial or laboratory environment
