Acuren is seeking a talented Engineering Operations Manager to join our Edmonton team! In this role, you will be responsible to plan, deliver and promote services that meet client needs within the Prairies region in a manner that complies with safety, quality and financial goals, while providing strategic solutions to clients that enhance Acuren's position as a trusted business partner, and reduces their costs to operate.

 

This is an in-office role based out of our 18th St office in Edmonton, AB. Some travel to other offices or client sites may be required for this role.

Responsibilities

The Operations Manager is responsible to support the efficient and profitable delivery of technical services within a specific geographic or technical service area by managing three critical areas as well as other work duties as assigned.

People Management:

  • Hiring and retaining staff who possess the necessary technical and safety qualifications to perform the available work
  • Enhancing employee performance quality by empowering and providing accountability to the employee for their work by setting clear objectives, monitoring progress, providing timely feedback, identifying training needs, coaching and mentoring staff, and participating in annual performance reviews
  • Approving technical training recommendations
  • Ensuring appropriate policies and procedure are in place and support ongoing service improvements
  • Providing oversight to administrative functions to ensure accurate and efficient completion of human resources related activities
  • Appropriately scheduling manpower to ensure good resource utilization and job satisfaction is maintained  

Financial Management:

  • Providing ongoing oversight and analysis of monthly financial reports, and monthly billable time reports, making necessary adjustments
  • Reviewing and approving operational expenses, DTR’s and expense submissions
  • Participating in the development of operational and capital budgets
  • Defining limits of authority with staff to ensure wise decisions are made with respect to the company resources
  • Effectively managing resources including facilities, vehicles, and equipment to ensure safe, secure, cost-effective and reliable use

Operational Excellence & Business Development Management:

  • Preparing price estimates for complex and detailed work packages
  • Seeking clarification of the client’s expectations, clearly defining work-scopes, monitoring project execution and verifying customer satisfaction
  • Ensuring compliance with company specific safety and quality programs and the appropriate use of procedures and administrative controls
  • Collaborating with other leaders to build and develop client relationships based on the provision of exceptional service and ethical business practices
  • Engaging productively with existing and new clients to expand regional service offerings
  • Improving value of services offered and evaluating and expanding service lines that are innovative and valuable to customers
  • Utilizing site specific metrics to improve productivity and improve customer service

Requirements

  • P.Eng Designation with a Bachelor’s degree in Materials/Metallurgical Engineering, supplemented by a minimum of 8 years of operational experience in an industrial/technical environment, 3 years of which is supervisory.
  • NDT or other technical certifications are an asset, as is knowledge specific to failure analysis, welding, and materials testing.
  • Strong managerial skills with the ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills to manage difficult customer interactions
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Consistently demonstrates their understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations, and Company Safety and Quality Management Systems, policies and procedures.
