Acuren Group is currently recruiting a Structural/Mechanical Engineer to support our Engineering Department. In this dynamic and multifaceted role, the incumbent provides structural review, repair design, and drawings for various projects using a strong structural engineering background and accepted codes and standards. The role also provides direction to more junior engineers, CAD technicians, and technologists and ensures work is managed within budget, meets client requirements, and completed within designated timelines.

  • This position will be based from our Richmond office.
  • Monday to Friday regular business hours
  • Salary range will be $33.66 to $52.89/Hr. depending on qualifications and experience

Responsibilities

  • Structural review, inspection and repair design of existing buildings and equipment including structural steel buildings, materials handling equipment, temporary work platforms, industrial equipment, and lifting equipment
  • Prepare and seal drawings for designs of temporary work platforms and repairs
  • Follow construction safety guidelines
  • Monitor on-site construction processes and provide technical support for construction projects
  • Prepare project estimates and submissions
  • Provide project management including budgeting, work progress reports and work collaboratively with a construction team
  • Provide certification for annual inspections of mobile cranes and platforms
  • Provide leadership and direction to junior engineers and technicians
  • Providing technical support to projects
  • Acting as project leader for site inspections and supporting technical investigations, communicating with client to gather evidence, conducting analysis and preparing report
  • Ensuring efficient use of resources and delivery of results
  • Proactively taking the initiative to understand customer requirements and needs to ensure expectations are met
  • Identifying additional services and products and new technologies to meet ongoing client needs
  • Meeting with customers to discuss report findings, recommendations and conclusions
  • Following up with clients regarding implementation of recommendations
  • Continually striving for process improvements including creating comprehensive reports and reports aligned to client needs, and identifying solutions to issues and developing recommendations for implementation

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Structural, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer in Training (EIT); EITs should have at least 3 years of mentored engineering working experience.
  • Five to ten years of relevant design experience including conveying systems, bulk loading and unloading equipment, buildings, and structural support systems for process equipment.
  • Experience conducting inspections and repair designs for pressure equipment, tanks, piping, infrastructure at ports, marine terminals, and mines and for a range of bulk material handling equipment including shiploaders, ship unloaders, reclaimers, and rail car dumpers.
  • Experience with repair design for concrete, steel, and timber.
  • Must be familiar with AutoCAD, Solidworks, Altair S-Frame, and/or other CAD design and analysis software
  • Must be familiar with BCBC, NBCC, CSA S16, CSA W59 and other relevant design codes
  • A natural ability to take on a leadership role and mentor junior engineers and designers both on-site and in an office setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A valid BC driver’s license

 

Skills considered an Asset:

  • A demonstrated ability to liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants through technical reports and memorandums.
  • Candidates with field experience including welding inspection certification
  • Civil design and engineering experience including foundation work
